By far the larger part of Tyagaraja's compositions is couched in Telugu while some of them are in Sanskrit.

Tyagaraja's songs thus constitute one of the greatest assets to be treasured by seekers of spiritual enlightenment. In short Tyagaraja has been the torchbearer for a good and devoted life conducive to the realisation of life's mission namely salvation. However values and virtues like right conduct love and compassion dignity of conduct and behavior reverence for elders preceptors and the wise firm conviction in the existence of the Almighty guiding the destinies of mankind all these and many more form the theme of Tyagaraja's delightful compositions. While there is a good number of songs glorifying the exploits of his chosen deity his valour his four fold policy of warfare his unsurpassed skill in bowmanship etc there is an equally good number of songs unfolding the several aspects of Bhakti and exposing those who seek self glorification posing themselves as ardent devotees. Tyagaraja's compositions encompass within their orbit a wide range of topics relating to life here as well as life hereafter. Most of them are charged with spiritual wisdom or truths enunciated in our holy scriptures. Each one of his songs is Bhakti oriented. He perceived Shri Rama from various angles and sang his glories in a variety of ways. To realise his cherished goal he chose Shri Rama as his personal deity and considered him as the Supreme Being or Para Brahman. Tyagaraja dedicated his entire life to the sole objective of securing emancipation from the cycle of birth and death through nadopasana. Saint Tyagaraja is undoubtedly one such immortal celebrity.
